Inspiring women... who is your role model?

8 March 2018

To mark International Women's Day, a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, we asked each of the B-Line team to name one person they felt deserves to be on our shortlist of inspiring women... who would you choose?

Our B-Line Top Five is a mix of ages and achievements, starting with teenager Malala Yousafzai who survived a head injury after being gunned down in her native Pakistan after daring to challenge the ruling Taliban. Airlifted by a charity to the UK for urgent medical care, she now lives and studies here and has become an articulate advocate for women especially their right to education.

1 Malala Yousafzai... youngest-ever recipient of a Nobel Prize

2 Tessa Jowell... former Labour MP now campaigning for better collaboration in research after being diagnosed with brain cancer

3 Margaret Thatcher... first female Prime Minister in the UK

4 Katie Piper... established her own charitable Foundation after recovering from an acid attack that left her maimed and close to death

5 HM The Queen... has steadfastly carried out her role leading the Monarchy through very difficult times over six decades of cultural and political change and personal challenge

As you can see, an eclectic list that we finally agreed upon. Other names that cropped up in our 'coffee and cake brainstorm' session included Dame Helen Mirren, Florence Nightingale, Rosa Parks and Diana, Princess of Wales. We'd love to hear your suggestions and do please drop us a note via Facebook so we can share.
