A Lot of Cobblers

Shoes that fit are a modern luxury that most of us take for granted. The craft of shoe making is ancient and known through the centuries as "the gentle craft". The close relationship between man and his shoemaker is legendary and based on the shared secret of the clients measurements plus every lump, bump, corn or bunion. These secrets were never disclosed as shoe making was known as an honorable profession. In this twenty first century fashion writer Linda O'Keef writes "Shoes can be a source of change,a means of shedding the past and buying into the future". She could well be right. These days the sales of designer shoes are soaring, many of us buy shoes we will never wear in public or never wear at all; we just adore the image that is created by owning such beautiful sculptured works of foot art. If we pedicurists could just enthuse shoe lovers to adore their tired feet with the same reverence, those among us who understand the importance of footcare would be very rich indeed.
